Trends To Inform Your Christmas Marketing Strategy

Bazaarvoice led an international survey of over 140 brands, analysing data based on more than 6,200 brands and retailers, whilst considering the impact of the coronavirus.

Here are their headline finds to inform your Christmas marketing strategy:

85% OF RETAILERS EXPECT INCREASED SALES VS 2019

Each month of lockdown saw a significant growth in page views and order count with trends indicating higher rates than last year, despite the pandemic. This has led 85% of retailers to believe that this year we’ll see increased sales online compared with 2019. This can be further justified by the fact that 2020 has seen an 80% increase in e-commerce too (source: Australia Post).

The new normal is well and truly bedded into our every day now and with social distancing measures still in place consumers are well adjusted to shopping online.
Let’s be prepared to offer Christmas shoppers a frictionless shopping experience!

61% OF RETAILERS EXPECT HIGHER PURCHASING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

Does your business use social media marketing effectively to reach your customer? Facebook has recently released their Christmas Marketing Guide with global shopping insights that indicate that “people will likely be more receptive” this holiday season to new products and services (source: Facebook).

Facebook also has found that the more economically affluent Gen X and Boomers are leading the charge with global and e-commerce growth. So be sure to think about the audiences you could be reaching when spending your social media marketing dollar, as the older generation is getting comfortable with splashing the cash online.

DISCOUNT DEALS WILL DRIVE SALES

It may not be a surprise to hear but consumers love a promotion and COVID-19 is set to exacerbate this with customers looking for more bang for their buck.

With 1/3 of holiday purchases driven by promotions (source: Google Ads) have you thought about how your business may utilise discount deals to attract customers?

From special offers to competitions, promotions are the perfect way to spread the holiday cheer whilst encouraging your customer to spend with you and share these great deals with their family and friends. You could entice new customers with a one-off special offer or put your marketing spend towards driving your customer to a particular product. It may be discounted BUT still offers the highest ROI in terms of the potential volume of sales because it’s already a best-seller!

With the latest trends now in, don’t miss the opportunity that can be had this Christmas. Combining your brand story with tempting promotions and a memorable ad campaign will set you up for maximum profit.
