Biggest annual fundraising event for the Inverell Girl Guides

The Inverell Girl Guides have been instrumental in this year’s Yellow Pages project

The Inverell Girl Guides have participated in the distribution of the Yellow Pages books for over six years in a row. Beth Hamilton, the Inverell Girl Guides District Manager, is a veteran herself, leading the charge.

The Inverell Girl Guides, is part of the Girl Guides Australia, one of 145 member countries in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) catering for girls only from the age of 5 years right through to 18 years.  The mission for the Girl Guides is to provide service to the community. They learn to make a difference, and to respect cultures different to their own and raise funds for all different types of organisations.  They provide their girls with life skills that enable them to grow up to become responsible members of the community.

For the Inverell Girl Guides, the participation in GDR Group’s Yellow Pages book deliveries has become one of the biggest annual fundraising events.

“It’s an important initiative for us, as it helps us raise funds to allow us to pay for our Girl Guides Hall annual insurance, which is very expensive”, said Beth Hamilton.

This year the Inverell Girl Guides distributed over 14,000 Yellow Pages books around the area of Inverell including some of the outer suburbs. Beth also acknowledged that the best part of the overall experience was bringing together the Girl Guides and seeing everyone work together as a team.

“It’s great to see the girls put in a wonderful team effort – I am really proud of them.  The girls loved doing it, and this year we even distributed the books across a few extra areas within our zone,” added Beth.

“It’s hard work but it yields the rewards from a fundraising perspective”.

Beth also noted that the Inverell Girl Guides couldn’t wait to participate in the Yellow Pages book distribution for 2017 and do it all over again!!

The Inverell Girl Guides are involved in numerous community service projects throughout the year.  Along with the distribution of the Yellow Pages books, a few other key initiatives they participate in include Agquip (An Agricultural Field Day), Relay for Life, Lamington Drives and Raffles.   Another one of their more unique projects includes collecting toilet paper throughout the year and then delivering it to the Ronald McDonald House in Tamworth.

It’s all about the experience you have in participating in such an important initiative.  When asked about her overall experience with the Yellow Pages project initiative, Beth summed it up very simply in just one word ‘TEAMWORK’.  That’s what stood out most for Beth throughout the entire experience.
